Comparing Christianity and Islam is like comparing basketball and test match cricket.

Dealing with the here and now facts that is simply not happening.in fact the reverse is.
It is your opinion based on judging one tolerant religion by one that is not that the next generation of Muslims will reject Mohamed.
Could happen but currently it is working the other way.

One can hope your prediction is right.
Comparing Islam with Christianity often leads to incorrect conclusions.

" 'There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger.' This is the basic statement of the Islamic faith: anyone who cannot recite this wholeheartedly is not a Muslim."

I'm not sure a rise in conservative fundamentalism and a general decline in belief are mutually exclusive.

"Willtell & Oxsaw,
you are not addressing the contradiction 13 mentioned. You are suggesting muslims will reject Mohammad and still call themselves muslims?"

I'll spell it out for you. Muslims will still be Muslims but will reject the extremes of the founder of Islam - Muhammed.

It will be in much the same way that Christians have stopped practising Christianity except for ceremonies. Hardly a difficult concept to grasp but I'll bet you try...

Re: Saudi Arabia Vs Iran - what time is kick off?

I think his point is that when the current youngsters have teenagers of their own (in 15-30 yrs), those teens will rebel and adapt western values, call Mohammad a fraud etc.

Vaguely interesting concept, if a bit naive.

Re: Saudi Arabia Vs Iran - what time is kick off?
Where exactly have I contradicted myself then?

You claimed the Muslim faith will shrink because people will turn away from Mohamed which defies everything that has been happening.
Conservative forms of Islam are on the rise, you only have to look at the clearly evident growing numbers of head scarves and face coverings for a start. This is being driven by young people not the older generation.
You also have the situation here where some kids are more radicalised than their parents as we have seen in the cases of youngsters travelling to syria etc... to the shock and surprise of their westernised parents.

13 is all contradiction, so it's difficult to know where to start.

My point still stands. Early generations of Islamic immigrants to the west give up the more radical side of the faith when they realise (personally) that it lies with odds with their chosen lifestyle, yet still retain "Islamic values", in the same way many in the west have dropped all belief in a Jesus - even questioning his very existence - yet still live by "Christian values".

These are almost exactly identical societal values, badge-engineered by whatever religion was originally followed.

I happen to believe that it is this process - the realisation that Islam is not an all-or-nothing package by a significant number of followers - is what is driving ISIS.

They have realised that such a process, if allowed to continue would wipe away the centuries of power and privilege the elite of the religion have enjoyed, and, like all other faiths, will do all they can to stop that process dead, whatever the cost.

Har har har. God's *direct* words (ie the Koran, which you have clearly never read in full) cannot be reformed, ever.

So what you're really suggesting is that people will leave islam en masse. That may happen, but is not what you wrote.

"Your posts are not simple though as you are contradicting yourself. You seem to think Mohamed is responsible for radicalisation and expect to Muslims to turn away from him whilst the religion keeps on growing.
Exactly how will that happen?"

Clearly you know f*ck all about Islam. There's a big difference between "Mohammed being responsible for radicalisation" as you put it and Mohammed creating a religion to serve his own means as a 7th century tribal war lord.

Radical Muslims are only taking the words of Mohammed literally. He beheaded over 100 people; raped and pillaged caravan convoys in the desert to steal their goods; kept slaves and a dozen wives when he created the rules for Muslims to 'only' have four. On top of that he was a paedophile that married a 6 years old girl. He took frequent trips up a mountain to converse with god and his oldest wife said "how strange it was that Mohammed always got what he wanted from god.

That is what radicalisation means to a Muslim. Following their leaders example....

Mike Oxsaw put it very well that later generation immigrants change their attitudes as they rebel against their parents. It really is simple unless you are simple...
